Would you tell anyone that you are thinking of hurting your baby?

... Scary thoughts are a very common symptom of postpartum depression. Good mothers DO think bad thoughts when they are struggling with depression and anxiety.

Tunu Shares her experience...

“My name is Tunu and I struggled with Post Natal Depression with my third child. It was an unexpected pregnancy and took a toll on me mentally.

I had thoughts of wanting to harm my baby and one time thought of throwing them across the wall.  This was exacerbated by lack of sleep and pressure that came with a new job.

Eventually I seeked help. I sought professional therapy.

From my experience, I have learnt to pay extra attention to new mothers and intentionally find out how they are doing. Similarly, I have stopped judging incarcerated women who have harmed or attempted to harm their babies. I feel that they women who were wrongfully jailed because of Postpartum depression. Coming out of the depression required hard work and was a miracle.” I am glad that am now in a much better place.

(Tunu was part of a project spearheaded by Make up Artist Joy Maringa who wanted to gift Post Partum depression victors with a makeover in celebration of their bravery during the Mother’s Day season)
