FROM DOUBT TO DOMINATION: REGINAH’S JOURNEY TO FITNESS, FREEDOM AND FEARLESS LIVING

‘My name is Reginah Wambui, but many know me as ‘Beast Lady’. I’m 38 years old, a proud mother of three wonderful kids—ages 15, 13, and 8—and a fitness trainer. My journey into fitness wasn’t always smooth, but it has transformed my life completely. Over the past 5 years, with consistency in exercising and healthy eating I have lost 41kg. I feel so physically and mentally fit.
MY JOURNEY
Before I embraced this lifestyle, I was battling with self doubt and excessive weight gain that left me feeling sick and unmotivated. The comments from people close to me—calling me “fat and unhealthy”—were hard to ignore. I also realized I couldn’t even help my daughter during her gymnastics practice with simple tasks. That realization pushed me to seek help, and I knew that the answer was fitness. It was clear I needed to turn my life around.
The journey hasn’t been easy. I have suffered from depression and was diagnosed with endometriosis—conditions that made every step a challenge. But I made a decision: exercise will be my medicine. It became my therapy and my strength and continues to be. I started small, and these days I often start my day with morning runs from 5:30 am to around 6:15 am, and then I hit the gym later in the day because I love lifting weights! That’s how I fought my demons—by pushing through.
Over time, my routine has evolved. I discovered CrossFit, and I fell in love with it. It’s now my field of fitness—something I never thought I’d do, but now I can’t imagine life without it. The progress has been remarkable. I’ve seen myself do things I never thought were possible, and every milestone fuels my motivation.

FINDING BALANCE
Balancing motherhood, a career, and fitness was challenging at first. I had moments when I thought of quitting, especially when my body wasn’t ready for vigorous exercise. But I persevered. I learned to set time aside for everything—kids, work, and my workouts—and that discipline has kept me on track. Being a fit mum means multitasking and managing responsibilities, but it’s worth every effort.
Nutrition has played a vital role in my transformation. I’ve always been disciplined about what I eat—no sugar, no junk food. Giving up chips was a tough battle, but I knew it was worth it. Maintaining a clean diet has helped me stay lean and energized, and along side exercising, it’s been key to reaching my goals.

MOTIVATION
Staying motivated hasn’t always been easy, especially when progress felt slow. But I’ve come to see fitness as part of my norm now. My own struggles with weight and health issues motivate me to keep going. One of my proudest achievements is opening Ragil Fitness. It’s a dream come true to have a space where people can come and train in a supportive environment. I am also proud to have participated in numerous CrossFit competitions and emerged as a winner. These are moments I cherish deeply—proof that dedication and hard work pay off.
The impact on my overall wellness has been profound. As I mentioned, I’ve lost 41 kilograms over five years, I see life in a completely different light since I embraced healthy living. Exercise has become my refuge and strength in managing life’s ups and downs.
